Major Tool

Major Tool & Machine is known for world-class engineering, fabricating, and machining services. The Indianapolis company has done significant work for this country’s aerospace and defense industries.

For this project we were contracted by Major Tool & Machine to install new cranes as well as perform numerous upgrades. We installed a 10-ton capacity runway system to help with production. We were able to re-span two of the customers’ existing cranes so they could be used on the new runway system, and upgrade the crane controls to use a radio control system instead of pendants.

We also worked on a 25-ton system, a dual hoist/trolley TRDG crane, and upgraded a 12.5-ton crane. Both cranes now have load turning capabilities and radio control systems for easier maneuverability of their products during manufacturing. We installed R&M’s OLI(Overhead Lifting Information) which works together with the HoistMonitor device to bring you real-time information about how your equipment is performing on phone or tablet.

During this project, we performed engineering and structural upgrades on an existing 20-ton bridge crane to bring the capacity up to 30-tons. This included upgrading the crane controls to use a radio control system.

In total this project consisted of 630 hours of manufacturing, and 280 hours in-field prep work and installation. We could not have done this project without our partners: R&M, Walsh Engineering, Conductix, Magnetek, Egenolf Rigging, and Pro-Fleet.

“The speed, engineering, and service was all impeccable.” – Major Tool & Machine VP of Manufacturing Mike Ohler
